Reduce Stress

What exactly causes stress and how can we manage it? In our busy modern lives there could be a million things that can initiate stress and anxiety: work, school, social situations or dealing with people can all cause stressful situations that would not only disturb your inner peace but also harm your health and sabotage your well-being.
What most people do not know is that the stress is a physiological defense mechanism, a supportive and protective reaction in face of dangerous situations. As human beings, much like other animals, our bodies are designed to give us the boost we need to protect ourselves and survive when confronted by life-threatening situations like animal attack or natural disasters. Wait! That is not a bad thing! It’s not, the stress that makes us sick, it is the secondary reaction in our minds that takes the form of various negative emotions such as anger, resentment, envy, jealousy and sadness and our constant judging, labeling and worrying about things that caused harm to our peace of mind and physical and mental well-being.
The truth is that stress can cause much more harm than you are aware of. When stressed, your heart rate raises, your blood pressure goes up making your blood more likely to clot, your brain’s goes under pressure and the memory centers get damaged, fat goes directly in your belly and you gain weight and so the whole body undergoes an immense trauma.
Luckily you can manage stress and reclaim your health and peace of mind. Here are a few suggestions:
Be Aware
Objectively observe your emotions and try to become aware of what causes them. When you are aware of the endless voice in your head judging and making assumptions, it will almost automatically lose its power to disturb your inner peace. You will then know that you are constantly judging and labeling others based on your past experiences, your beliefs or assumptions. By acknowledging your mind’s responsibility in creating stressful negative emotions you will begin to learn to control it. Next time you feel upset at a co-worker taking credit for your hard work, observe your emotions and see how similar thought patters begin to rise in your head and the physical impact they leave in your body.
Be in control
Know that you are not in control of what other people say, do or believe but you can be in control of how you react to what comes your way; let it be an angry driver, a loud neighbor or a demanding boss. Much stress comes from trying to control what we can’t control so stay positive and treat every situation as it comes objectively, gracefully and compassionately.
Breath!
Take a deep breath and you will almost immediately notice your mind will calm down. Try practicing mindful breathing and instead of short shallow breathes, breath all the way down into your stomach, then keep the breath in for a few seconds and slowly breath out. Take five deep breaths now. See how differently you feel?
Empower your body
Supplements and multivitamins can help balance the stress response of the body. Fueling up with healthy nutrients and vitamins will help you respond to stressful situations better and stronger.
